Hi Murilo, Lennart, Frank, Peter, Erik, If we can't find a timeline, let's start one. I put a draft timeline for CM up on the CMS Wiki, which is proving to be a good collaborative authoring tool for the CMS community. Also playing as a web service at http://cmsglossary.com] The CMS timeline is a very rough start only, so we need people who remember things. Ask your older associates. I would like to ask Frank Gilbane for a complete set of his Gilbane Report (I have them back to 2000, with his important "What Is CM" article). I will read through all the press releases and catalog the company and product names that he recorded, so the timeline will show them coming (and going, sigh!). As part of the CMSML project (http://www.cmsml.org) we plan to ask all the CMS vendors and developers for a brief history of their product. We also plan to do interviews with the executives to explore who did what when - if we can get past their marketing blitzes). I also hope to look up some of the major executives who started CMS companies long gone, like Gerry Sinclair of NCompass (Resolution), now Microsoft CMS, Joel Bresler of Future Tense (Content Server), later Open Market, divine, and now FatWire, Steve DeRosa of Dynabase, and Philip Greenspun of ArsDigita (ACS), now OpenACS and RedHat CMS. I wrote a brief history of the turmoil in the CM marketplace a year ago. Mergers and acquisitions continue apace, so I need to update it, and with this new timeline we can go back a lot earlier.
