It probably is a pointless discussion, although I still think that if the
site genuinely promoted both open source and open standards, you would list
non-open-source software that is standards compliant. 

Promoting open standards has far more point than promoting open source. I'm
not against open source. I use lots of open source software myself. It's
just that I can see a clear virtue in promoting open standards, and that
isn't *necessarily* true about open source. 

I don't have any problem with your open source advocacy site. If you feel it
is good to promote it, go right ahead. Perhaps it would be even more
effective if you promoted open source and world peace, or open source and
chocolate! 

I pointed out that the site blurs the distinction, and Lennart thought I was
wrong. (I know you describe both things, but that doesn't make it any the
less an open source advocacy site, does it?) 

One of the regular features of this list is various people turning up with
pointers to their websites, and very often, the websites are there to
promote a particular business, or business model. That's fine, but it's also
fine for someone to point out the possible bias if there is one. (Just to be
open about this, I happen to make my living on the proprietary side of the
fence at the moment.) 

I haven't yet seen a site or list published here that gives even-handed
coverage to open-source and proprietary CMS software. I don't expect
anything else; it's a commercial world, and the only reason to invest all
that time and effort is to try to persuade somebody of something. No
disrespect to anyone involved in this process - just a pragmatic outlook.

This is growing into a pointless discussion (is it a discussion really?)

The distinction between open source and open standards is clearly stated at
www.ossos.nl.
This OSOSS program has a list of open source products and a list of open
standards for the Dutch government.
I'm not going to explain more about it, because everything is metioned on
the ososs website.

My answer to 'the French guy' concerned open source content management
systems only.
