In order to get higher traffic to your site, there is a massive amount of
work involving keyword placement, submissions, Pay Per Click, Site
Partnering and more. Our firm has done many successful submissions with some
sites ranking in the top 10 placement of the top search engines (this is not
an advertisement for us.)  I can tell you from experience that it's a hard
and large job to do. For starters, you must have relative content to the
search phrases you want to be found in. Of that relative content there are
Search engine algorithms that they use to determine keyword importance in
your text. For example, one search engine may take the first 30% of your
content for the most important keywords. Another may use Page Header of 7
words or less as important keywords. The difficult part of this is having
copy written to follow these rule yet also not negatively affect the user's
experience.  The next step may be to HAND submitting your site. This is
extremely important. Search engines will ban you for using submission tools.
Then you need to have a good balance of Pay Per Click ads in the search
engine like overture and Google ad words. Then you need good sites that link
back to content on your site. 

As you can see it gets very complicated and some stuff you wont see results
for a few months on your work.

Can anyone describe any techniques they have used to successfully increase
search engine ranking of their sites/pages?  I just read that because of
"spam", many engines now ignore meta keywords.
