Hi Mike and all, As list-mom, I normally reply off-list whenever someone is pushing the limits of our netiquette. But Mike is very open and polite and I thought this might be a good time to start a little discussion reviewing our mission. This CMS list, now over 550 members, has a distinct technology focus. Our companion list CMS-Develop has not really grown. It was meant as a place for developers to mention their products when they are genuinely looking for critical feedback (as opposed to marketing message spam). You probably know we have rejected (off-list) dozens of submissions that were just plain marketing, encouraging them to join our PR mailing list. CMS-PR is designed to help CMS vendors and open-source developers promote their products. It mails to sixty or so news outlets friendly to CMS press releases, from [email protected] to wired.com, and the industry leaders Gilbane Report and CMS Watch. Many have joined that list - now at about 150. Just a week or so ago, we launched a new CM list, moderated by Hilary Marsh of NetContent/Chicago, for people whose professional responsibilities include planning, writing, editing, approving or otherwise managing content. We hope to keep the vendor/developer talk to a minimum on that list. It has already produced some great posts on the difficulties of getting management and IT to pay attention to the real users, even those who have done their own needs analysis already.
