I am certainly interested in participation. I can work to develop content around best practices and methodologies, case studies, facilitation and working session techniques, and curriculum development for educational programs. I have taught graduate level courses on content and knowledge management, and currently teach workshops on content strategy and taxonomy development. I am founder of the Boston KM Forum and have some experience in developing communities of practice. (The KM Forum is now a non profit organization with Larry Chait the current president...) To reiterate Tony Byrne's comments, I am not a coder and I have not audited the CM Professionals website to see what issues there may be under the covers, but nothing glaring stuck out in my mind. (Hillary mentioned to me that after registration, some of the site's weaknesses become more evident - I'll register and take a deeper look...) The purpose of the group, as I understand it, is to form a community of practice, communicate and educate. If there are technical purists on the list who are judging obscure aspects of the technology and then opting out because it does not meet their expectations, then I am not sure that is best for a nascent community. Technology people tend to factionalize over standards, tools and techniques. That is not really what CM Professionals is about. (In my mind, anyway - perhaps others have a different opinion). I think the lead article is more about the core issue: Aligning business strategy and content strategy. Choose your poison in terms of technology, make the user experience of primary importance and get things done, don't try to make them perfect. Arguments and discussion welcome. :-) Seth Seth Earley Earley & Associates, Inc 781-444-0287 781-820-8080 cell www.earley.com -----Original Message----- From: contentmanagers-bounces-MANKfPrvENWc44HBJURdtIAH1+cY4lxd2LY78lusg7I@public.gmane.org [mailto:contentmanagers-bounces-MANKfPrvENWc44HBJURdtIAH1+cY4lxd2LY78lusg7I@public.gmane.org]On Behalf Of Scott Abel Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2004 9:32 AM To: tbyrne-xROWbLetBU9Wk0Htik3J/[email protected], For people who manage online content Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [contentmanagers] Purpose of CM Pros And, to add to what Tony Byrne wrote earlier today, I'd like to encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering their time, energy and skill to improve the CM Pros web site (content, architecture, functionality, etc.), or work on a CM Pros project (Glossary, Resource Library, CM Summit, etc.) to contact me today. I'm compiling a list of folks who are interested in helping grow CM Pros! Currently, we have volunteers working from Australia, Europe, and North America -- collaborating online -- to achieve our organizational goals. I hope you will consider joining us.
