Hi Tony,

Just wanted to say I agree with your sentiments. Although the CM Pro site
does need work and could've done with more testing prior to launch, the fact
that it's getting people talking is the main thing. The industry is crying
out for guidance and leadership in this area. Anyone who takes on the
challenge of setting a path - any path - will get support from some,
derision from others and apathy in between.

The most important thing is that something has been done, a step has been
taken. I think it was Churchill that said a good plan today is better than a
perfect plan tomorrow - I said a good CM Pro site today is better than a
perfect one tomorrow.

Cheers,
Martin

Subject: [CMS] Purpose of CM Pros

Hi folks-

Koberg:
>I realize I am not making many friends right now by being so forward,
>but cmprofessionals.org currently portrays our industry as amateurish.

There has been a lot of discussion about the shortcomings of the CM Pros
website, and those criticisms are well-taken. As others have pointed
out, work remains ongoing, and all offers of help are welcomed.

But why don't we discuss the substance of the organization itself. Some
of this discussion will continue at the forthcoming Summit in Boston,
but let's consider a few questions now to spur some debate:

- The founders of the organization made the assumption that there is an
int'l "community" of content management professionals. Do you agree?
If so, what are the boundaries of that community (CM Pros has
deliberately not set boundaries to date)? Do engineers, editors,
user-experience pros, and myriad other specialists have much to say to
each other?

- An important objective of the organization is to sponsor
community-driven efforts to debate and ultimately agree on proven best
practices for managing content -- practices for members to take back to
their organizations, as well as serve as targets for vendors and
consultants. Do you think this is worthwhile? What are the most
critical areas to consider here?

You'll see from the CM Pros website that there has already been a lot of
debate on these and other issues. Ultimately, it will be the members
who decide priorities. So I encourage you to look beyond any near-term
technical shortcomings and join the organization so you can help shape
the agenda.

Best wishes,
