Re: Integrating a List-Serv into a CMS

Our CMS is not .NET (yet) but we implemented a very feature complete 
specification for an integrated module "Forum / List-Serve' which 
enables users to run searchable forums with a list-serve type function. 
The requirement came from a US Government customer that needed to 
provide a means of secure remote email communication (without having to 
require users to log in to a website) but then later, log on and use a 
search to find previous correspondence - which no doubt got deleted 
from email. It also saves all email communication in threads - 
conversations are just as if they were posted in a normal forum. 
Subscription is all handled through the centralized user subscription 
system.

One problem with listserves is spam filters, which was a bit of a 
toughie which we are still tuning up. It actually makes the 'hard 
print' record on the forum even more important to keep.

Then you have issues with foreign encoding of mail messages, which we 
discovered cause all sorts of problems.
