I don't know about Day's page, but you can find the JCR's open source reference implementation here : http://incubator.apache.org/jackrabbit Also, it seems to be that WebDAV seems like a common way of remotely accessing content, as well as searching, versioning, etc. Jackrabbit has just recently added the possibility to access JSR-170 content through a WebDAV interface. It is also interesting to note that some people have begun "ports" of the JSR-170 API to PHP.
