We work with Rhythmyx by Percussion and the containers for adding reusable 
content are called "slots". The actual reusable content is called "snippet" 
variants.

Templates are build by developers and are of HTML format. These HTML 
templates are then transformed into XSL by the system. It's the XSL page, 
which transforms the backend data into desired output.

In Rhythmyx, they call it "Active Assembly". The Active Assembly feature 
gives you ability to modify related content within the full-page preview. 
Our users haven't really used this feature all that often though.
