I agree, it's easy to point to the importance of using business metrics,
but it's not so straightforward to obtain this alignment in many
organisations...

My general understanding is that in this specific case, the University
hadn't made any other major changes during the year. Since the metric
is automatically gathered every year, it was then easy to correlate
the website improvements with the increase in students.
