Hi - What about the cost part of it? Based on the core CMS functions "Content Creation, mgmt, and delivery model", can I have a set of open source product listing with basic CMS functionality and a approx cost on them. Also, what about the Microsoft platform based ready solutions available and their scalability / application development capabilities? Some suggestions will help, regards - Sunny -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Monday, May 30, 2005 6:48 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: RE: [CMS] CMS Modules - Hi, Taking forward of Apoorv's mail, there is one more important feature which we should look for is Content Intellegence (metadata creation, management etc) which allows you to categorize/filter content by a Metadata Model. as said in the earlier mail, any CMS is composed of CMA and a CDA (content management application & Content Delivery Application). If I take this in terms of Interwoven, one of the ECMS available in the market, the: Teamsite makes a Content Management Application Opendeploy makes a Content Delivery App Metadagger/Metadata makes a Content Intelligence etc. Amit Jain [email protected] said: > > Features like calendaring, discussion forums, polls and surveys, etc. > are certainly very cool and form a part of any web initiative that requires collaboration. However, we must separate them from core content management systems. The problems that a CMS tries to solve and those addressed by this applications are very different. > One can always say that the data generated by, say a voting > application is content and hence by definition, any application that handles that is a content management system. If we were to follow that line of thinking, then pretty much everything will be a content management system. An ERP, a CRM system, a search engine (Google??) - you name it and it'll be a CMS. > > In my opinion, a CMS should provide core capabilities like: > > > 1. This includes applications for security, personalization, cacheing and so on. If some of these are built into the CMS, that should be considered additional. > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [email protected] > > [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sunny Ghosh > > Sent: Saturday, May 28, 2005 7:43 PM > > To: [email protected] > > Subject: FW: [CMS] CMS Modules - > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > This is really interesting and a great learning experience! > > To my understanding, a WCMS system, requires at the basic to have an > > highly usable "Content Production and Content Delivery" modules at > > the core and then one can get off the shelf modules which are > > specific to certain functionality, such as discussion groups, > > surveys, etc ... > > > > But -- What about platform and the associated cost with it? > > Is it possible to get .NET ready content creation and presentation > > components instead of open source products?
