If talking about a section called "Assets" where these types of files are
stored, I've used "Library". Macromedia Dreamweaver uses the same.

> Layout - a predefined template for site content (e.g. 2 col format)

Template and Layout, to me, are the same thing. I'd go with Template.

> History - page history - copies of previous version of page content.

I use Versions but that may be my techy side coming out.

Snippet - a small piece of a page that can be re-used. (Like a table, or
callout, or whatever)
