"Template" is one of the most confusing terms in CMS-land. I 
personally use template to describe the form that users fill out to 
enter content into the system. Some CMSs call this a data entry 
template or data capture template.

Then there's the page design template -- i.e., different predefined 
layouts for pages on the site; section owners may choose which design 
template to use for a new page or subsection, for example.

Maybe that differentiation is helpful.
