I'm just curious... since you're on FC 6.1/2, why not use FarCry Solr Pro? http://jeffcoughlin.github.com/farcrysolrpro/ Not that there's anything wrong with the old Solr plugin, but it was just a simple port of the old Verity plugin and has a few issues (although I've never come across your issue).
