You're right, there's no nice summary write-up of either of the 2 latest
releases... From the top of my head the major improvements were;

6.1
- New DB gateway code (underlying stuff, doesn't affect the way we write
custom content types)

6.2
- New default skeleton (Fandango)
- Webtop UI style improvements
- Device detection library for supporting mobile webskin switching (
https://farcry.jira.com/browse/FC-2615)
- New event listener sub-system (https://farcry.jira.com/browse/FC-2632)

Other notable things that happened during these releases:

- FarCry Express (install-less demo that can run on a USB drive) was
released
- FarCry Builder (drag-drop content type creator) was teased

Other custom things that may or may not be part of core have been posted on
the blog:
http://farcry.posterous.com/

That's still not 100% what you want, but it might give you a few more
pointers :)
