multiple rules - but only use one

does any one know of a way where you can put multiple rules into a
container, but after one "has returned something", no other rules are fired?

I would like to add multiple rules, with the last one being default
content, which run in order, but if one of them has content, the other
rules are not executed.

I am thinking of putting something into the request scrope, eg
REQUEST['ruleMyRule'] = true|false
but was wondering if there was a 'farcry' way of doing this
