question about friendly URLs

Greetings farcry universe, this is my first question here so please let me
know if I'm doing anything wrong - I tried searching the list and didn't see
an answer to this:

I just installed farcry 3.0.1 and have been experimenting with it after
being pretty inspired by the demo at CFUNITED recently.  So far things have
gone rather well, however I'm rather confused about the "friendly URL"
functionality.  Getting this to work with human-readable URLs is going to be
essential before I can show it to my boss and coworkers so I really need to
figure this out.

On the farcry web site, friendly URLs seems to be some sort of optional
plugin - however on my installation there is already a field under "advanced
options" when I create new navigation nodes called friendly URL.  Filling
this in doesn't appear to do anything though.  Can anyone shed some light on
this?  Do I need to install something?

I am setting this up on a test machine, just a notebook running XP and IIS
5.  In production we would deploy on 2003 and IIS6, if that matters.  Do I
need to reconfigure the web server in some way to let farcry do it's thing
here?

I'm very experienced with apache on unix, and have only recently come to
Windows on the server side with my limited CF experience, so apologies if
I'm not making sense or missing something simple...
