Hi Mathew,

Thanks for an interesting article. I think you make some very good points
and echo some other recent threads, emphasizing planning, business
processes, and having some in-house knowledge. 

I did want to comment on the topic of "fees". Influencer or reseller
commissions are standard practice at all levels in this industry. This is a
common practice for motivating partner sales channels. The *only* exceptions
here are open-source and/or integrators who have not formalized partnerships
with vendors (not a good sign). 

Yes, discuss pre-existing relationships with anyone who is recommending a
cms product. This is smart. Its important to understand their possible
motivations for recommending product "a" over product "b". Its also
important to understand that "fees" are fairly standardized wrt %. This
means that no matter what someone encourages you to purchase, if its not
open-source, they are probably making a few percentage points on the
license.
