Thanks for your comments. I'm skeptical of the ethics of these partnerships.
I agree that this is an industry standard. That doesn't mean it's a good
thing though. Most clients don't know about these arrangements and I think
it's a smart business practice to keep your clients well informed. That's
all. This article was written more for clients than for those in the
industry.

In the legal system anytime a hint of conflict of interest presents itself
lawyers are required to disclose such information to a judge or arbitrator.
In many cases it's made known to all parties and it's not a problem. Other
times lawyers are required to recuse themselves. We're not going to solve
all the ethical problems in business today, but we can be up front with our
clients and disclose anything that appears to be a conflict of interest.
Recommending only software from which I get a percentage is such a case
where I would expect a firm to disclose this information. Obviously my
skepticism of fees extends well beyond the CMS world.

BTW, I'm a huge CMS~Wire fan. Keep up the excellent work!
