Luiz,

it didn't support as many query language's as X-hive, which we needed to build internetsites (with good performance). And in reviews we were reading that there was much difference in performance.

Hi,

Did you try to use Tamino XML Server, from Software AG?

Mattias,

we implement all are Content Management Systems with X-hive. We have tried
several other XML databases (Xindice, Berkeley, etc.), but they didn't
support as many query possibility as X-hive (XQuery, XPath, XPointer, XLink,
XSL & XUpdate). But an even more important factor to consider is the
performance! Especially if you want to use your CMS with larger intranets or
websites. You can download X-hive at there site: http://www.x-hive.com/

Kind regards

Mattias,

Have you looked at any of the so-called native XML databases? eg:

Xindice
eXist
Tamino

These provide query interfaces based upon things like XPath.

There are also some PHP classes to use mysql as an XML database. I haven't
tried them:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpsqlxml

Shaun

Subject: [cms-list] Storing data as XML ?

Hi,

I'm currently into developing a CMS and I want to add accessability to the
backend from third-party programs. I think the ideal way of this, would be
to use XML. I've spend the latest nights trying to figure out how I could do
so in a smart way. Currently all my data is stored in a MySQL-database, with
alot of tables using indexes, joins etc.. I can figure out how I should get
a working - and yet fast - system using plain-text XML-files for data
storage. I could also store the plain-text XML-files in the database. But I
can't really figure out how to make a two-way implementation of XML in a CMS
and still be able to extract data and use complex searches from the
database. I'm thinking about making a "wrapper" for the data importing and
exporting - so a program could request an XML-file via. HTTP and then
generating the XML-file real-time with the data stored in my database and
visa verca regarding the importing.

Anyone out there who has some thoughts or ideas - maybe practical
experience - with implementation and use of XML in a CMS and the use of
third-party programs?

Thanks in advance,

Mattias
