Thumnail images not showing in live version

Hi,
currently we are facing the problem that newly created images (as
attachments) will not have any thumbnails shown on the live version of our
site.
In deliverWorking everything is fine but on the live site, it leads to the
following (standard) error:

Page not Found or an error occurred. Either way we could not serve your
request.

System message:

(no System message follows)

The problem occurs only with new images. The thumbnails for older content
are still working and the URL of those looks just the same.

Any idea, which settings could be wrong?
