file manager

Hi 

We're using Jahia 5.0 downloaded from SP branch. 
Our customer has a requirement with the file manager, he wants to add an
opcional description to each file. We dont known how to make it, but we have
some initial ideas: 

1) modify the exisiting file manager

2) create a portlet

What option is more convenient ??
