Hi again,

When you browse the File Explorer, you have a
small "i" icon which opens a pop-up with all the
details about the file. Including all the DAV
metadata. And the users have the option to add
new DAV ressources. You should be able to add new
DAV properties programmatically but I am not
myself a WeBDAV expert. Please check the Apache
Slide web site for more information about the DAV server.

Else, if you choose to make a Jahia containerlist
(check the Jahia template and integration doc),
you just need to declare in your jsp file a new
ctnlist with a file field and a description
field. Then editors will be able to add a
description on their files. Please note that by
default, Jahia is already delivered with the
default DublinCore set of metadata which already
includes a "description" field for each content object.

Last but not least, for certain type of binary
files (office or PDF), Jahia also indexes the
file properties. If you prefer you can then
decide to add new properties within your Word
document and then map this new property to the
Jahia Lucene indexer (in order to make some
advanced search on top of it - please note that
such an option is currently only available in the
HEAD branch (check the nightly builds in order to
test the HEAD branch and not the SP one) and you
need to activate WebDAV search and indexing (in
your jahia.properties file you have two options to turn on:
######################################################################
### Filemanager  #####################################################
######################################################################
# Configuration of the file manager that uses Slide as a back-end.
jahiaFileRepositoryDiskPath
=   $context/WEB-INF/var/content/filemanager/
useFlatFileManager                                      =   false
fileLockOnPublication                                   =   false
showGEDProperties                                       =   true
enableSlideSearch                                       =   true

This will be part of the new advanced DMS
features. In the Corpv2 set of templates, you
should then see a new Advanced File Search
tabulation which allows you to search within
uploaded files (or to make saved searches). You
can also map a "saved search results" in a Jahia
box (if you add a new box of type Search Results)
which will list all the files of your dynamic
saved search criteria (with colums to display,
ranking, number of files to be listed per box,
etc... being customizable). You can also create
several navigation axis for your files (by using
the Jahia categories) and then generate
cross-directories searches (e.g. by hierarchy, by
project, by status,...). We will soon make a more
detailled documentation on these new features.

Cheers,
Stéphane
