Deploying a web application

Hi All,
I am using jahia 5.0.1_03 (Jahia 5.0.1 r16926). I am trying to deploy a web
application and it looks like we have to deploy a webapp as a portlet only.
Is there any other option which I am missing here?
I managed to deploy my sample web application as a portlet but it gives a
NullPointerException when I try to use it. I added jahia.xml file to my
sample web application to be able to deploy in jahia as a portlet. Please
suggest me if any other changes are required. Thanks.
