Deleting or resetting a page field (declared alone - outside a container)

Hi folks
I would like some help or guidance on resetting or deleting a page field
programmatically in Jahia 5.0.3.

The page field is declared outside a container, and as I see it I can
therefore not use the integrated deleteContainer procedures.

In which way can I e.g. reset or provide the user with a url to delete the
page referenced by the field? I would be just as happy if I could provide
the functionality as Jahia provides with page fields declared as external
types (TYPE_URL). Where the user can choose to reset the page creation.

Hope you have some proposals?

BTW, I am aware that fields declared outside containers are to be deprecated
in Jahia 5.1, but we happen to use them in a way that cannot easily be
changed.
