Could you make a thread dump when the platform 
begins to slow 
(http://qa.netbeans.org/bugzilla/generating-thread-dumps.html). 
You can also launch JConsole 
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/management/jconsole.html 
in order to see if there is some issues with the 
garabage collection (perhaps something is leaking 
memory and you have less and less memory... so 
much and much more garbage collections which take all your CPU time).
