Category search

Hi all!
Could you please give me a hint or just a first push of how can I use Jahia tables for searching the tree nodes, categories.
I should create a category tree using the standard category template and perform search on this tree. 
Is it possible to access the Jahia tables in order to perform some specific search by name, etc.?
