Re: Best Practice Template development

The "corpv2" set of templates is a full different
and refactored set of templates. V1 was using
classical HTML. V2 was fully refactored in order
to only use CSS. The look and feel is also different.

So if you want to try both sets of templates, the
most conveniant way is to create two distinct
virtual sites on your developement server and to
play a bit with each set of templates. For the
corpv2, you will find the source code in this
repository: http://svn.jahia.org/svn/corporate_portal_templates_v2/

Regarding upgrade, most of the customers do not
use such sets of templates on an as-is basis.
They takes some inspiration, reuse some portions
of the code (generic boxes, navigation
menus,...), etc.. but the look and feel is most
of the time strongly modified and new additional
templates are added (perhaps based on the simple
or double basic and default templates). In
conclusion, we can not override or merge such
sets of templates with our fixes/enhancements
with the upgrade scripts (or with the XML/import
export module). So this is then up to each
customers with its custom set of templates from
time to time to verify fixes/enhancements in the
default set of templates (for example with a tool
such as AraxisMerge) and to "merge" useful modifications (if any).

Cheers,
Stéphane
