I had a look on it some times ago, and I find this [1] (but don't try) : 

- modify this conf : 
<init-param>  
<param-name>allow-reload</param-name>  
<param-value>true</param-value> 
</init-param> 

- then type this url :
<URL>?cocoon-reload=true fonctionne

But be careful, 
- this can be a security issue
- some objects not handled by Avalon could be not reinitialized
