Error when changing template in a component variant

Travel Demo throws an error when you change the template of a component variant. The ability to change the template was introduced with MGNLPN-295

To reproduce:
# Edit travel home page.
# Select the Tourtype Teaser Row component ("Which tour type are you?")
# Switch to component variant "Tour type is known"
# Change the component variant's template to "Featured Tours (by TourType)"
