I don't buy this. Either your client can parse a given URL or not. In
the latter case he should just tell the user.
Eg if you just want to parse AIM, just scan for s.startsWith("aim")
and you are done. If you can't do imaps, check that. In the real
world all popular frameworks have builtin URL parsers, so *you* don't
have to do this anyways.
