In the future, I think the enhancements I've done and seen so far should
port quite easily.  Some stuff will be even easier as there are lots of
pre-cooked functionality in Java such as first rate [and documented!]
LDAP support, JDBC support [so I can connect with my DB2 database!
assuming that JOPE uses JDBC],  and myriad of workflow packages. =20

I don't develop in Java but I do use [and recommend] Jython,  with
Jython you get the quick-to-solution of Python and the ability to
hi-jack the mountain of Java stuff floating around.  You can write some
really amazing scripts since they can latch onto some powerful
assemblies.
