the main reason it is closed source is the need for the interface to MS
outlook, which is MS, so when they make it opensource, this interface will
become opensource. to my knowledge, that is the entire reason for the
Outlook interface costing money as well.

Not really my issue to answer, but thats the answer given earlier, and I'm
silly enough to answer in full again ;) Helge will probably correct me at
any rate. ;) (complete with "read the archives, I answer this every other
week).

We purchased a 5-user license to test and use the connector - we are
waiting for the connector to be finalised before we make a decision to
roll it out. we have only a little bit of pressure for an outlook/
groupware solution, so we are waiting it out as long as we can. so far, it
looks good. the connector needs a bit of work (cough english translations,
anyone?)

are the strings for the installer in as nice a setup as the rest of
OpenGroupWare, Helge? is that file available? thats one of our biggest
holdups at the moment I think. Keep meaning to bring it up, but we have
other projects in the works <g>. I'd be happy to spend a long night
translating just the installer file, (I have some people on my back I'd
just love to get off, you know <g>).

from a commercial point of view, the cost of buying a 5-user license for
the connector, vs. the cost of any other major exchange/groupware server
(aka domino, sun ONE, MS Exchange etc) was a bit of a no-brainer.
(especially considering we don't have any MS servers currently).

I've found Helge and this mailing list pretty responsive for support, as
long as the requests are clear ;)
