VOIP in general, and Asterisk in particular are taking off dramatically in
the UK at the moment.

Penetration seems to be in the SoHo (Small Office / Home Office - not sure
if the acronym crosses the Atlantic adequately) market, rather than the
corporate space.

There is a plugin for Outlook, that allows "one-click" dialing from Outlook
via Asterisk.

The user clicks on a contact wthin Outlook, which sends a xAP message to
Asterisk. Asterisk calls the number (automatically routing whether it's a
VOIP or a POTS) number, and when the call is connected, phones the nominated
Asterisk extension (associated with the users's copy of outlook) so the user
can pick up.

This uses the xAP protocol (www.xapautomation.org)

I know the author of the Asterisk / Outlook plugin. Would you like me to
check if he'd consider making the source available for OpenGroupware
porting? The Outlook side is relatively straightforward - the heavy coding
has been on the Asterisk side, AIUI.
