The Palm talks > 'directly' to nhsd over-the-net? Yup! Now how you go about it can be a little tricky. Network HotSync can be done over Wi-Fi, BlueTooth, or any other TCP/IP connection (like PPP). But it wasn't ever designed for SECURE networks, since it sends pretty much in the Clear. You would be best to implement a VPN solution for Treo users to ensure a secure tunnel for your users' info. Once you have the VPN tunnel up, your VPN server would port forward the HotSync ports to your OGo's nhsd server (TCP ports 14237 and 14238, UDP port 14237). You do have to do some setup on the handhelds, but it's really straight forward. I used to HotSync to my OGo server here at the Home Office, until I switched to Sabastian's Debian Experimental packages (which don't have nhsd). I used BlueTooth as my wireless transport, since it's local in the office. The same thing can be done with WiFi enabled handhelds like the Tungsten C. Basically, the Treo is great for sales and support people who are off-site most of the time. Regular handhelds are great for folks who are on-campus most of the time.
