Yes, the idea is to use it as an interface on top of ZideStore. 
Actually some older state of the mail parts are already checked into 
Svn.

Interestingly the mailer is also a WebDAV/IMAP4 gateway at the same 
time.

Its pure HTML+CSS+JS, no XUL involved. Notably it also doesn't use 
frames which was a requirement (but limits the tricks a bit).
Currently Gecko is required since IE interprets CSS in a non-standard 
way, but this will get fixed in the future.

Using XUL would give additional advantages (eg real menues, real table 
views etc). I can imagine that we later do an additional variant which 
uses bits of XUL to enrich the UI.
