Not every mailbox, but every mailbox under my INBOX. I do this all the 
time and even have smart folders for that (eg "mails sent by me in the 
last week").

Well no. I was only suggesting that those mails are searched which are 
not (yet) in the squat index. Which should be only a few and its rather 
easy to detect that with IMAP4 (since objects never change).

IMHO having to wait some minutes until searches are correct is rather 
unacceptable.

Well, this is not DMS stuff, this is functionality provided by every 
modern mail application.

I think it should be rather easy to have a daemon which polls an IMAP4 
server every now and then and creates/maintains an index for the 
messages.
