Have you taken a look at the assigned user feature?  Assigned user links
users to tasks via a special type of object link and is supplemental to
traditional assignment.  So you can have 1:M relationships and each user
has an additional "assigned tasks" tab in their task list.

Set JobPreferredExecutantsEnabled = YES in your NSGlobalDomain, and
restart the Web UI to enable assigned user.
