If you are going to use the Apache XmlRpc API, you can look at the JOGI 
Source code for hints (the XmlRpc* classes).
I'm not sure what you mean by complex objects, but I suppose you mean 
structs; these are represented as Maps or Hashtables in Java.
I think the FetchSpecification (I think that's the name) is a Map as 
well (I'm writing this off the top of my head, so I might be wrong).
