[OSCOM] Outsiders idea about "The Future of OSCom"

Hi,

I was quite for the last days about your discussion of the future of
OSCom, as I'm far to new here on the list.



I got involved into OSCom last year on the LinuxWorld Expo and honest
this idea and concept is quite great and unique.

The nice thing about your idea is that it's different from the once
others try to solve. Normally everybody is focusing on themselfs and on
fighting commcercial applications.


You are trying to strengh the OSS and together their power. That's just
a good strategy.

However I can understand Sandro saying:

Yes working on something like this is hard - I realize this in the
little area of our Joomla! project already.



At the moment I'm planing a road show / conference which should be
related to open source and CMS solutions. The idea was to provide the
Joomla! professionals a bit bigger public visibility. Unfortuanlly the
Joomla! community isn't at the point others are already. So this will
need some time.


BUT: The idea is still there and it might be an idea that fit's to OSCom.

It's the idea of doing things vise versa to the standard term "Open
Source meets business".


I realized that all the conferences and talks are like: Look commercial
companies how good OS is - you need to use it.

But basically we all know that there are some good reasons, why they
can't use it or just don't want to use it.

But what's about talking to them and asking: "What would we need to do,
in order to become a considerable compititor?"

The idea is more like: "Business meets OSS" and tells us where to improve.


Using OScom to send out this message, I think is fitting to your aims
and strategies, at least as far as I understood them yet.

It also fit's into the picture what Seth is talking about. (I would like
to add an other technology here. Using OpenDoc as interchage format for
all our systems - like Brad suggested it last year).



I personally can see the future of OSCom in an organization that is
providing a supporting role for the projects as well as for their
communties to represent the unusual possibilities Open Sources gives us
to the world.

Topics like a standarzied certification programm for all CMS or like
interchange formats are stuff which other CMS just can't provide.


Of course you can count on me supporting this ideas.
