If anyone beyond yourself is able to answer that question more 
adequately than you, that person should be your employer

I always summarize the business model of my company, of which 50% of 
its turnover is based on open source activities (being: the result of 
said activity becomes available under an open source license) as:

                                 "we send invoices to customers"
