Nasty ba... Ok let's try to summarize it a bit. A possible future about OSCOM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What's OSCom for me? - Basically it is a kind of umbrella organization which helps to get some certain things achived which the single project could not achive themselfs or only with a huge effort. OSCom could be a kind of Open Source CMS trade union which works in political fields or in areas which are just bigger as the problems of one project. One example could be a CMSDay or conference which focus on the issues of CMS in a different way than the commercial conferences do. Something which achieves a bit different solutions that help the projects to work together or help the commercial buyers to use/understand those projects more easy. At the Linuxday in Karlsruhe this year we might start with something like this, as some of us have discussed to do an evening event that is dedicated to give all of us a more indeep background of the different solutions. This could e.g. help to get a better understanding of the different concepts and with this an idea where we can work together or may be profit for the work others have done already. That's something which would be nearly impossible without OSCom. A second role for OSCom could be a kind of standardization organisation. At this point I'm not thinking on standards of coding or software standards in general. I'm thinking more about documentation or certification standards. Building a certification system for your project costs huge effort. It's not only a huge amount of work which needs to be done it's also a huge amount of knowledge, which you normally don't have. OSCom could provide templates, strategy papers aso. to make it much easier for you to implement a certification individually for your project. The idea is not that we have a OSCom certification, but as I said abouve - the umbrella - could provide a basic structure which you could adapt to your own needs. Last thing for the moment could be a united advertizing campange. It's much simpler for us to organize let's say a road show, or a ad campagne all together, than each one for it's own. Even projects which have companies behind them - such as EZ or Typo - don't have unlimted monney. And a general campagne that focus on OS CMS solutions in general could help them in the same way as it would help smaller projects. There is one more thing, which I have achieved already. Unfortuanlly I'm not allowed to talk about it yet. But it will not be long when I can point you to a marketing / opensource campagne which was quite difficult to achieve (convince the company that is doing it now). With OSCOm as the active union/group behind someone it would have been much simpler. Conclusion: What should OSCom be in future? I think it would be good to have a kind of organization that supports the different projects in political and common topics. Providing those services will automatically lead into the situation that more people could be reached for all projects. At least that would be for what I will work within OSCom.
