Which can be considered the root of the problem IMHO, although it began
as a side effect. A "chiken and egg" problem: no serious development in
JS takes place because there are no serious JS developers, because JS
cannot be used for serious stuff because if it could, there would be
some serius JS development....

What is the definition of an OS language? It is an ecma standard after
all and OS implementations are available. I strongly believe things
would become more serious, if a party of serious developers established
such a central place. It doesn't have to be the CPAN of ecmascript, but
it could actually promote the language and proper usage of it through
open source.

In a parallel story and from the java developer perspective; where would
java be today without apache/ jakarta, tigris, codehaus, sourceforge etc?

The time is quite proper too... AJAX is becoming a buzzword and client
side development is regaining interest. Programming languages are
looking over integrating scripting support. Even commercial
apportunities are there, with all these tools missing. In the same time,
 we never had the tools (e.g. in documentation and unit testing) or
support (in browsers and languages) we have now.

OR, we can wait another 10 years for proper python support in two major
browsers or something :-P
