A more appropriate google search would be:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22open+source%22+%22digital+asset+management%22

Although DAM (Digital Asset Management) is related to document and
archive management - I understand that it has come to mean - and be more
specifically related to - the management of /images/ and multimedia files.
(this is an older article but someone might find it interesting if they
are learning about DAM http://www.techexchange.com/thelibrary/DAM.html )

I am not really aware of /any /Open Source projects that /specifically/
address this area (not that I have looked much).

A UK company that I know of called Axomic (www.axomic.com) provides DAM
solutions for Architects based on an Open Source software stack (LAMP) -
although their work is not open-source, but is rather provided as an
managed appliance.

If anyone digs something else up, I would be interested to know.

Cheers,
Ross.
