I had forgotten that is the variable names that the phplib perm class
uses.  This was written as a patch to it and submitted to phplib for
inclusion ( even though nothing has come of it).


Also - the practice of setting a variable to '' instead of null probably
is a leftover from php3.  Kind of a habit because of how much code we
already had doing this.
