cant get 0.8 to work

I've been trying to get the latest version of phpslash to work with no 
luck.  I Just get a blank page.  Once, I got the calendar block and 
nothing else, but on a refresh and thereafter it was blank.  I'm 
starting from a fresh new database and code, not an upgrade (which also 
didnt work).

What am I doing wrong?
