Instead of using the 7_to_8.sql copy the scripts/db_xfer.php.disabled 
to public_html/db_xfer.php and run it.

The 7_to_8.sql really isn't used and can't have everything needed to 
update.  So we use the upgrade script.  That file probably should have 
been deleted.

This would explain why you have blank pages.
