I'm using the recipe here (which takes some finding every time, there seems to be so much duplication in our git documentation)
https://dev.tiki.org/Git-Usage#Full_clone_with_folders_per_branch
which seems to work ok, so i have separate folders for 21.x, 22.x and now 23.x using a main tiki checkout (the big 3.5GB one) as the "reference".
Seems to work ok, but in the past i've also had trouble with oh-storm's version of rebase not doing the same as the command line one - would like to get to the bottom of that one day...

As I read/head somewhere, there is no more semiautomatic merging period or method, and commits need to go to trunk (master) first, and backported (cherry-picked) to earlier branches. So far so good, I tried that yesterday but got an issue which prevented the git push to succeed.
