Good question - in many ways i've found svn more reliable and controllable for deploying tiki's, but at some point (EOL 18.x Jan 2023) svn will be switched off so moving to git is a good idea.

Also, at the moment, svn and git are being synchronised by submit (by Fabio magic) which frequently breaks needing him to do some awful massaging to get it working again, so sometimes svn is a few days behind git (as i think it is at the moment). I've been asking for a while for us to make svn readonly and change to using git-svn which is far simpler and i would imagine more reliable... but that';s still not happening.

So learning git is a good idea, but maybe even better to investigate Tiki Manager which can take all the hassle out of it for you, it's come a long way since its early days (thanks to Marc and Ricardo and the team) and is almost certainly the way forward to Tiki deployment.
