Hi guys,

Last time I did file gallery revamp we thought particularly about 
abstraction of the file storage and this is all built in Tiki now. We 
also have the excellent flysystem package by thephpleague which allows 
easy plug in of external file storage places. There should be relatively 
small amount of work required to plug all these together and some 
configuration exposed as to config where the files are stored and how 
are they accessed. See more here:

So, I think most of the work has been completed here - we just need a 
bridge between Tiki file galleries and the flysystem adapters.
